Cold-Aisle Width for 3 kW Racks in Korean Warehouses

Most logistics warehouses in South Korea were built for pallet storage, not 3 kW-per-U heat loads. When we measure aisle widths during site assessments, the question is always the same: how narrow can we go before maintenance becomes impossible or intake temps climb?

The 1.2 Metre Baseline

For rear-exhaust units like the Antminer S19 series, we recommend a minimum 1.2 m cold aisle when containment panels seal the hot aisle. This allows a technician to pass with a replacement PSU while the adjacent bay keeps hashing. Below 1.1 m, you will shut down the facing row for any hardware swap.

Phase Imbalance When Mixing Miner Batches on One PDU

A facility in Ulsan called us after three breaker trips in one week on a 40 A three-phase feed. The operator had added Whatsminer M50 units to a row that previously held only Antminer S19s. Total wattage was within spec. The problem was phase distribution.

Why Mixed Batches Matter

Antminer PSUs draw slightly heavier on L1. Whatsminer units shift load toward L2. When six of each share a PDU, L1 runs 19% above L3. Korean industrial breakers tolerate brief imbalance but trip on sustained deviation above 15% on any leg.

Containment Panel Options for Low-Ceiling Warehouses

Ceiling height kills more mining warehouse plans than power contracts. When the lease says 3.2 m and the cable tray sits at 2.9 m, full hot-aisle containment is often impossible without relocating infrastructure.

Soft Panels

Vinyl strip curtains between rack tops and ceiling are the cheapest option. They work when exhaust heat rises cleanly and the gap above racks is at least 400 mm. In summer, we see 3–4°C intake rise compared to rigid containment because panels billow into the cold aisle.

Reading a Korean Industrial Power Contract for Mining Loads

Before we draw a single rack position, we ask clients for their 전력 사용 계약 (power usage contract). Korean industrial leases bundle electricity differently than residential or commercial office contracts. Misreading the demand charge clause has sunk more mining projects than bad hardware choices.

Contracted kW vs. Peak kW

Your contract states a contracted capacity in kW — say 1,500 kW. That is sustained draw, not peak. Mining hardware at 0.05 TH/s and above typically runs 24/7 near nameplate. We budget 90% of contracted kW for hashing load, reserving 10% for cooling fans, pumps, and lighting.
